Term 01.11.05 – 31.01.07
Project support: European Training Network (ETN)
Participating organisations:
- ARBEIT UND LEBEN (Germany – project management)
- CESEP (Belgium)
- Leo Lagrange (France)
In the discussion over civil society and the economic structure of the European Union the question of reconciliation between work and private life plays an important role, and also needs to be viewed from the perspective of gender equality.
The focus of this project is to develop, test and distribute a tool for dealing with the question of how work and private life are reconcilable in a European context (GENDER CHECK). This comes in the form of a questionnaire providing a selection of multiple choice answers, which can be used electronically and features evaluation software. In particular there will be a focus on the role of men in promoting gender equality.
Furthermore the project should also enable:
- To make transparent the diversity and experience of the existing action systems and to clarify the role and meaning of the active role players and organisations of civil society as well as businesses for further development.
- The creation of a transnational cooperation to exchange and reflect on the situation in Europe regarding the promotion of equality.
- The elaboration and publication of a strategic recommendation on how to strengthen the male perspective in the promotion of reconciling work and private life for both gender.
- The development and strengthening of the mentioned target groups (with priority on multiplicators) dealing with the question of the equality of women and men.
- The distribution of project results in further EU countries (GENDER CHECK and accompanying material, strategic recommendation and final documentation) as well as the distribution of the results in the media (internet, the media of European organizations and networks, media of member states, associations, organisations and institutions).
Target groups:
Target groups of the projects are the social female and male role players in the context of reconciliation of work and private life. On the institutional level these are:
- Organizations, institutions and associations of civil society
- Private Enterprises and Businesses
- European networks
- European trade unions

Regarding the subject level the target group aims at people who hold key positions in the central question of how work and private life are compatible with each other:

As well as on the political level with its decision makers.
The people to whom these activities are addressed to are also interested employees. The target groups are specified and agreed on by the participating project partners. As there is a special project focus on the role of men in equality processes there is also special interest in the participation of women.
